The first funding round – which took place in autumn 2012 – was under the theme of mental health. A total of 16 project proposals were received. After a thorough deliberation by a panel of independent judges, chaired by broadcaster Olivia O’Leary, awards totaling €39,000 were made to nine successful applicants from all strands of media.
Due to the investigate nature of the projects, successful applicants will not be made public before the broadcast or publication of their work. It is expected that successful projects will be broadcast or published throughout spring 2013 and will be promoted on www.maryrafteryfund.ie and on social media platforms.
