Bairbre Flood spent a week in the migrant camp in Calais, France speaking to the people forced there through war or the political and economical situations in their home lands from which they fled.
Her documentary ‘The Hungry Road’ for UCC 98.3 FM, is a series of interviews with migrants who have lived in the camp over the past four months – who they are, why they’re there and what life is like in their precarious situations. None of their names are used as it could jeopardise their asylum cases or bring repercussions from the police or fascist groups in the area.
‘The Hungry Road’ also includes interviews with people working in the camp or working on justice/migration rights.
The documentary was broadcast on Wednesday, 29th June and is available to listen to via the Soundcloud link below.
